Faux Floral Arrangements
Looking for information about faux floral arrangements? We have news, reviews and “how to”s for everything to do with artificial flowers and how you can use silk flower arrangements to enhance your home and your life.
Not that long ago, most people felt that displaying faux flowers showed a lack of good taste, but in the last twenty years a great deal has changed. Silk flower arrangements are now in great demand and used by the top names in interior design. Flowers and plants are the ideal accents for a home, and today’s busy lives leave little time to pamper them, so designers turn to plants, trees and floral arrangements which need little more than the occasional dust, yet in just the right container, placed in just the right spot, they can transform a room from the merely ‘nice’ to ‘stunning’.
Ready to use faux floral arrangements to beautify your home? You may find the following useful.
Not all silk flowers are created equal. The more realistic flowers are usually listed as ‘real touch‘ and many of them are. The detail of the reproduction is stunning, the flowers, leaves and stems look realistic from all sides and the flowers feel real to the touch. These are as different from the cheaper silk flowers as chalk is from cheese, not only in detail, but in color. Cheaper silk flowers tend to be evenly colored and perfect, whereas the more accurate reproductions display the imperfections of real flowers and typically show variations in color.
A floral display is not simply made from flowers. Be sure the greenery you choose maintains the illusion of reality.

Not all colors are the same. If you can’t find the right thing in the quality you are looking for, you can guarantee it will be available in white, simple because of the demand for good quality silk flowers for weddings. You can adapt a white flower quite easily to your color scheme by tinting the petals, usually at the center, the base or the outer edge, depending on flower type. This is quite easy to do using water colors.
Use the right item in the right place. If you need an arrangement for a tall shelf, it will look more realistic if it is all green. Trailing plants are ideal, but since it is unlikely anyone will view it closely, there’s no need for ultra-realism. You may prefer to go for a type of pvc which is easy to wash, as this type of faux floral arrangement will not be dusted often.
Like the real counterparts, artificial flower arrangements look even better when well lit. Angle your lighting to display an arrangement at it’s best, add an ‘in pot’ up-lighter to a large silk plant or tree and add a tiny led light source to a vase filled with glass pebbles.
When choosing a ready made faux floral arrangement take careful note, not just of the quality of the flowers (enlarge the picture) but of the quality of the vase. You are paying for both. A simple, glass vase is great for a modern room, but if you’re looking for something to enhance more traditional decor, urns etc. can be more suitable.
Flowers, whether artificial or otherwise, can really set the mood of a room. Be sure to choose the right thing for your surroundings.
Modern homes:
Gerbera daisies in complimentary colors are young, bright and modern.
White lilies in a tall vase have a classic appeal and blend well with chrome and glass.
Modern floral topiary, unusual flowers and realistic orchid sprays give an upmarket feel.
Beach decor.
Soft blue hydrangeas are ideal to enhance a neutral, cool color scheme.
Tall agapanthus, blue or white in a cylinder vase filled with sea shells add a touch of nautical spirit
An arrangement of succulents (yes, the faux variety looks very real) and sea-shells can be very effective
Cottage Decor
Pink hydrangea in a metal trough are ideal on a console table or shelf.
Roses and peonies, informally arranged have a ‘just from the garden’ appeal.
Trailing ivy is ideal for above the kitchen units or on top of a bookcase
Tropical
Faux orchids in a pot
tropicals like anthurium, ginger and bird of paradise will provide an exotic feel.
Traditional
Deep colors like burgundy enhance the polished woods of a traditional interior.
Larger rooms demand larger arrangements, while flowers like peonies and tulips recall the bright still life arrangements captured in so many old masters.
If you know what you want, or have seen something similar, there are companies, such as Certain Style flowers who specialize in creating artificial floral arrangements and will work with you to customize their arrangements to your decor.
Whatever your choice, you’ll find that faux floral arrangements enhance your home without requiring and onerous care or maintenance. How many other things can say the same?
